JUTTA HILPUESCH

Artist - Illustrator - Photographer - Owner Happy Days of Amelie

Hello and welcome!

I am Jutta, the founder and creative director of Happy Days of Amelie. I was born and raised in Germany, but have been a Chicagoan by choice for almost two decades now. I graduated university with a degree in business, worked as a marketing manager for one of Germany's largest candy companies, and ran my own jewelry business, before venturing into illustrating and photography. I am married, have 3 children (4, if you count Amelie...), and a very cuddly golden retriever, named Bo. My first children's book "An ABC of Flowers" was published in collaboration with Penguin Random House in the Spring of 2019.

If you're interested in learning more or just want to say, fell free to send me an email anytime!

HOW AMELIE CAME TO LIFE

When friends go through rough times, what do you do? You listen, you give hugs, you bring chocolate, and, maybe, you draw a little something. That's what I did anyway. When one of my friends was going through some "stuff" a few years ago, I started drawing pictures of a little girl character, which I paired with photos of some of my friend's favorite things. I gave them to her, hoping they would make her smile and feel better, even if just for a little bit. That was about 3 years ago, and I have been drawing ever since.

Eventually, I began sharing my art on Instagram, which not only introduced me to an entire community of amazingly talented & supportive people, but - most amazing of all - was the platform where my art was discovered by Penguin Random House, who offered me the opportunity to create a children's book, which has been a absolute dream come true.
